As a university professor of sculpture for thirty years in England and Kentucky, with roots in New York and the Pacific Northwest, Forrester directly impacted generations of sculptors and artists. He grew up in New York City and received his MFA from the University of Oregon. He was a long-time beloved professor at Western Kentucky University, and maintained a studio in the artists' haven East Nashville for the last 12 years of his life. (MORE)
The Downing Museum at the Baker Arboretum is located on a 115-acre botanical garden and historic estate with breathtaking views in Bowling Green, KY. Admission is free and less than an hour's drive from Nashville, TN.
In addition, a screening of the award-winning documentary film, A Line Unbroken: The Charles Forrester Story in collaboration with the Warren County Public Library and the Downing Museum, will be held at the historic Capitol Arts Center in downtown Bowling Green, KY on September 16th, at 6 pm.
A discussion will be held afterward with the artist's daughter, Winifred Forrester; WKU Art Historian, Guy Jordan; and former student and sculptor, Russ Faxon.
